Central Resources LLC maintains its offices in Tupman, California, 18 miles southwest of Bakersfield, in the heart of the agricultural and oil and gas regions of the San Joaquin Valley. The valley is a prolific producer of nuts, cotton, vegetables, and citrus fruits, as well as sheep and cattle. California supplies approximately 25% of the US agricultural products and the vast majority of that originates in the San Joaquin Valley.
In 1865, only six years after Edwin Drake's monumental discovery in Pennsylvania, California's first productive well was drilled in the Central Valley, east of San Francisco. Like oil reservoirs in Texas, Louisiana and Pennsylvania, a hint of what lay beneath the surface could be seen in the many above-ground oil seeps, known by Native Americans for thousands of years. The prolific southern California oil fields were discovered in 1892 by Edward L. Doheny and Charles A. Canfield, unsuccessful gold and silver prospectors, with the discovery of the Los Angeles Field at a depth of 140 meters, near present day Dodger Baseball Stadium.
We own and operate two producing oil and gas fields, the North Coles Levee and South Coles Levee Fields, that we discovered in 1938. The South Coles Levee Field was a natural gas recycling project until the 1990's and is now in a blow down phase. Both fields are directly offsite to the Elk Hills Field, formerly an important part of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
The North and South Coles Levee currently produce an average of 1400 BOED of high quality oil and gas. There is great potential for enhanced oil and gas recovery in both fields. Additional infill drilling is of primary interest in both Fields, as well as the introduction of polymer and/or new waterflood injection patterns in the North Field. The South Coles Levee has the future potential for conversion into one of the nation's largest gas storage fields, with a capacity of nearly 400 billion cubic feet.
Covering the majority of the Coles Levee surface is the Coles Levee Ecosystem Preserve, which consists of approximately 6000 acres of more than a dozen threatened and endangered species habitats. Central works closely with the affiliated environmental and governmental groups who administer the Preserve.
