Denver, CO
Located in downtown Denver, our corporate headquarters is positioned between the magnificent Rocky Mountains to the west and the High Plains to the east. Colorado is a major US agricultural and energy producing state and fosters a significant base in tourist related activities. The Denver metropolitan area has approximately 2.5 million inhabitants and is the largest city within the Mountain Time Zone. Incorporated as a railhead during the gold rush era of the mid-1800s, it has become the natural location for storage and distribution of goods and services to other mountain states. There are a substantial number of federal offices and corporate headquarters for companies based in technology, communications, mining and alternative energy.
The city has become the hub of the Rocky Mountain energy industry. Conventional and unconventional natural gas output from several Colorado basins typically accounts for more than 5% of annual US natural gas production. Colorado's oil shale deposits hold an estimated one trillion barrels of oil, nearly equal to the entire world's proven oil reserves.
The company was formed in 1988 and made its first acquisition in the Denver Julesberg Basin of Colorado and Nebraska in 1989. Expansion of the corporate base was the primary focus of the company throughout the 1990's. Growth was achieved by means of multiple acquisitions of oil and gas properties in the western U.S., principally in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico and the San Juan Basin of Colorado and New Mexico. With historically high commodity prices, Central sold the majority of its U.S.-based oil and gas assets in October of 2000, retired its entire debt, and made a significant cash distribution to its shareholders.
We have devoted the past decade to foreign opportunities and have grown a sturdy portfolio of assets in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, The Netherlands, and Canada. Central maintains District offices in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Calgary, and Bakersfield/Tupman, California, and a Commercial office in Amsterdam. Central has retained its Denver headquarters even as the corporate focus shifted toward international transactions. The company remains as well-respected independent energy company in the Rocky Mountain Region and is a strong supporter of the domestic oil and gas industry.
